Violin Teacher and performer
Maeve Jenkinson has many years experience as a professional musician, having been no. 5 first violin of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and lead the orchestra on occasion at the Royal Festival Hall and Glyndebourne. She has had the privilege of working with some of the worlds finest conductors, such as Sir George Solti, Bernard Haitink, Sir Simon Rattle, Kurt Masur and Klaus Tensstedt and this experience has had a lasting influence on her as a musician. She has also worked with world class ensembles such as I Solisti Veneti and the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields.
As a student Maeve was a Foundation Scholar at the Royal College of Music where she studied with Jaroslav Vanacek and won the top prizes for violin and chamber music. She was awarded scholarships from the Royal Society of Arts, and Countess of Munster Musical Trust to further her studies in the USA with Josef Gingold, and a Full Fellowship to study with Paul Cantor, Naoko Tanaka and Dorothy Delay at the Aspen Music Festival for four summers. She was described by Josef Gingold as "one of the finest violinists I have taught”. Maeve’s teaching pedigree goes back to the great violin pedagogues of Leopold Auer, Carl Flesch, Ysaye, Galamian and DeLay.
Maeve has over twenty years of private teaching experience, having taught at Moira House Girl's School, and the East Sussex Academy of Music where she was the Advanced Violin Teacher and Chamber Music coach.
Currently Maeve combines running a private teaching studio with a busy concert schedule. She is in demand as a soloist and chamber ensemble player, is Musical Director of the Corelli Ensemble, a founder member of the Sussex Chamber Ensemble, and continues to play occasionally with the London Philharmonic.
Maeve's pupils range from young beginners to adult learners, advanced students, music conservatoire students and experienced professional violinists. They achieve many successes in grade exams, competitions, and scholarships. Several of her pupils are members of the National Children's Orchestra, and several are currently studying at Music Conservatoire.
As a private music teacher, Maeve is fully insured and DBS checked.
In 2014 she formed Seaford in Harmony, a Community Interest Company which has recently delivered a highly successful cross-curricular arts project in collaboration with Seaford Head School. The aim of the project is to foster a life long love of music and the arts in young people.
